Welcome to David's Page!

“Until there is a cure for cancer, there will always be a reason to swim all across America.” - Matt Vossler, Co-Founder, SAA

On July 11, 2008, I will part of a 22–mile relay team that will swim from Rowes Wharf in downtown Boston, out among the Boston Harbor Islands, and back to Rowes Wharf.

You might be wondering why anyone would do this: we’re swimming to raise money for cancer research and treatment programs.

The Perini Clinic at Dana Farber is dedicated to helping pediatric cancer patients and survivors navigate the immediate and lifelong health issues they face as a result of aggressive treatment.

A 22-mile swim relay doesn’t seem so daunting in that context…but I could still use some help. Here are two ways to do so:

1. Donate: click the “Support Me” link on the upper right. Donations are tax deductible, and you can contribute anonymously.

-and/or-

2. Comment: enter a comment at the bottom of this page, and support me via positive thoughts as I train to finish the swim. Or heckle me anonymously.

About Swim Across America

Swim Across America, Inc., [SAA] is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming- related events. With the help of hundreds of volunteers nationwide and past and current Olympians, SAA is helping find a cure for cancer through athleticism, community outreach and direct service.

Since its inception in 1987, SAA has raised over $20 million nationally for recognized beneficiaries. The beneficiaries we support are closely tied to the communities that are currently hosting events - New York, Boston, San Francisco and Chicago.

This is a charitable event that helps raise money for the Perini Quality of Life Clinic at Dana Farber Cancer Center. The Clinic was founded by David and Eileen Perini (in memory of their son), and its primary mission is to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and cancer survivors. This is a broad mandate that among many other things includes addressing the long-term effects of treatment, the risk of second cancers and the complex social and psychological issues associated with the disease. It is a terrific event for an organization that provides an essential service for cancer patients and their families.

We welcome your contributions and thank you for joining us in this fight.
