| Long Island Sound Swim
July 24th, 2010

.
Register Now! - The Long Island Sound Swim started in Larchmont, New York in 1992 at the Larchmont Yacht Club with a 4-mile swim. It was, and still is, dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Kathy Webers, who along with family and friends courageously battled cancer for over a year. Our first year we had 35 swimmers and raised $15,000 - In 2009 we had over 700 swimmers and raised over $880,000. The Long Island Sound Swim is the biggest and most profitable SAA Swim in the country. Due to our faithful swimmers, dedicated volunteers, and generous donors, Long Island Sound has become one of the most distinguished open water swims in the country. Please join us this year!
General Information
The Long Island Sound Swim has been raising money for cancer since 1992. Today, it is SAA's most profitable swim in the country. It has hundreds of swimmers that have become something of a giant family, a gorgeous venue, the best brunch in SAA history and an awards ceremony that nobody wants to leave.
Over the last 17 years, the Long Island Sound swim has evolved to include all types of swimmers from Master Swimmers, Olympians, recreational swimmers, competitive Swim Club swimmers, children of all ages. Our youngest pool swimmer was 4 years old. Our oldest pool swimmer was 75.

Safety

Swimmer safety is most important for all of our swimming open water events. A Swim Director is responsible for coordinating all activities within an event, and works closely with both Police and Coast Guard representatives to ensure swimmer safety. In addition to Swim, Harbor Patrol Police, Coast Guard boats, Sea Tow and some zodiacs, kayaks ensure swimmer safety at all times. EMT personnel are aboard several boats. All boats are able to communicate via both hand held and ship to shore radios, and kayakers have walkie-talkies. Specific procedures to be followed will be discussed at the swimmer meeting the day of the swim. These procedures are designed to protect swimmers from injury and will be enforced by the Swim Director.
- Water Temperatures:
Sound water temperatures can vary. Wetsuits are not mandatory, but strongly recommended.
- Waiver:
All participants will be required to sign an additional offline waiver of liability at time of check-in. For children under 18, a parent/guardian will need to sign the form also.
- Age Requirement:
All parents and legal guardians of swimmers under 12 years old, agree to swim along side of her/him for the duration of the swim or if the parent or guardian is not participating in the event, he/she agrees to have another qualified adult, whom they shall specify on swim day, swim along side his/her child for the duration of the swim.
