"I remember watching him [Richard] across the deck at one of our dual meets. He was jumping up and down and running the full length of the pool cheering on his athletes. The more he ran, the faster they swam. By the end of the meet, there I was, running up and down the length of the pool cheering on my athletes! Richard makes everyone around him a better person. When I think of Richard, I can't help but smile!"

Swim Quick event details

 

Many people in the swimming community asked what they could do to honor Richard Quick's memory. 

"Swim Quick"  provides a tangible way for everyone to honor RIchard.  By collectively donating to Swim Across America and swimming together in his honor, we can share how much he has impacted our lives.

Program Details: On February 13th & 14th, 2010 (Valentine's Day Weekend), Swim Across America is hosting a National, open invitation fundraising event, "Swim Quick," as a tribute to the legendary coach Richard Quick

Join us in a united, national effort to honor Richard's legacy. Together, swimmers across the world will jump in the water knowing that someone, somewhere else, is swimming too. The energy of our collective efforts will remind us that we are all in this fight together.  If you can't swim Valentine's Day Weekend, swim whenever you would like. Don't forget to tell us about your experience by posting on our discussion board.

What can I do to help?

Swim. Register here! Don your swimwuit in any pool on February 13th or 14th. Or, if you can't join us on those days, swim on any day that is convenient for you. If you want to raise pledges on your own, use our donation tabulation form.

Donate to the Richard Quick Endowment. You can donate directly on-line or feel free to send a check made payable to "Swim Across America" and note Richard Quick in the memo line and mail to Swim Across America, One International Place, Suite 4600, Boston, MA, 02110.

Spread the Word. Please help Swim Across America make this a special event and help us recruit swimmers across the country and around the world.  Please post this fact sheet at any location where swimmers may be interested in getting involved. You can also join our Swim Quick "Cause," on Facebook by clicking below. You can invite others to join the cause, post messages, stay up to date with new about the event, and post pictures.

Involve your  entire team. If you are a coach, we'd love to have your entire team involved in the efforts.  Whether you coach a high school team, club, YMCA, collegiate or masters team, please rally your team members by dedicating a workout in Richard's honor. Help encourage each team member to make a donation to the Richard Quick Endowment. A week after the swim, we will post the results of all the participating teams. Incentive Gifts -   For gifts of $100, SAA will send each donor a SAA bathing cap.  For gifts of $250, you will receive a limited edition, SAA Richard Quick t-shirt and bathing cap, and for any gift over $500, you will receive the t-shirt, cap and a Vineyard Vines baseball cap.  For a gift of $1000 or more, you will receive an exclusive Swim Across America IPod Shuffle, the t-shirt, the cap and the Vineyard Vines cap.
