Dear SAA—Baltimore Participants, Volunteers and Supporters,

With Hurricane Florence making its way towards the east coast, a small craft advisory has been issued and understandably our on-water support for Sunday’s Baltimore open water charity swim are moving their boats to safety. This news is on the heels that the Maryland Emergency Management Agency declared an evacuation zone where Sunday’s Baltimore charity swim is to be hosted. The rescue and EMT are not able to dedicate their full support given other priorities with Hurricane Florence. The farm property that hosts our swim has flooded with the tides this week and even if we had full sun the next 72hours, we would not be able to safely access the venue for Sunday’s swim. Unfortunately, Mother Nature isn’t cooperating to provide a safe environment for swimmers, volunteers, safety personnel and supporters. As such, we wanted to inform you as early as possible that our Sunday, September 16th open water charity swim is being cancelled.

In light of the weather and flooding from Hurricane Florence, we are rescheduling the Saturday, September 15th pool charity swim at Meadowbrook to Saturday, September 22nd. All SAA—Baltimore participants, pool & open water, are invited to join us on September 22nd at Meadowbrook. You may pick up your swim cap, t-shirt, towel and WaveMaker rewards at 2pm. At 3pm we will serve food cookout style and be joined by speakers and doctors from Johns Hopkins to share the impact of SAA—Baltimore grants. We will swim at 3:15pm at Meadowbrook as the SAA—Baltimore community.

We know many of you will be disappointed by the news of the cancelled Baltimore open water charity swim. You’ve trained. You’ve fundraised. And you want to swim in open water. We understand. And here is what we’d like to offer to you; On Saturday, October 6th, Swim Across America is hosting SAA—Richmond. SAA is waiving the registration fee and fundraising requirement for anyone from SAA—Baltimore who would like to participate in SAA—Richmond. This is the information link for SAA—Richmond. Please contact info@swimacrossamerica.org for a registration code that will allow you to complimentary register for SAA—Richmond.

Please do know, all funds SAA—Baltimore participants have donated and raised will continue to support the cancer research programs at our beneficiary Johns Hopkins.

We are grateful to all the SAA—Baltimore swimmers, volunteers, partners and vendors for their their hard work. Please mark September 15th on your 2019 calendars for SAA—Baltimore.

Thank you for your understanding and support of Swim Across America,
