Our Board of Directors


BOD - Kerry Anderson Kerry Anderson

Former Executive Director of Swim Across America is currently a full time mom.  Kerry has been associated with SAA for the past 20+ years.  She stays actively involved with the coordination of the Greenwich, CT Swim. Kerry is committed to finding a cure for cancer since her Mom lost her battle with the devastating disease in 1999.  An avid runner, Kerry has run numerous marathons to benefit cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  Kerry and her husband Karl reside in Riverside, CT with their two young sons.

Rob Butcher Rob Butcher
Rob became the President and CEO of Swim Across America on January 1, 2016. Previously, Rob was the executive director of U.S. Masters Swimming. The USMS mission is to promote health, wellness, fitness and competition for adults through swimming. Rob's vision was to create a more inclusive USMS through enhanced programs and new services. Under his leadership, USMS created a nationwide program that provides certification to coaches, instructors, and aquatic directors who are coaching adults. In 2012, Rob's team created the Swimming Saves Lives Foundation that advocates and provides grants to program partners that are teaching adults to swim. USMS membership increased more than 50% to more than 60,000, and the number of facilities offering a Masters Swimming program doubled with Rob's leadership.  Rob swam four years for Georgia Southern University, earning both his undergraduate and Masters degrees from GSU. He competed in the 2000 USA Olympic Trials. Rob and his wife Allison are parents to twin boys. Like so many affected by cancer, Rob's mom Maria, his hero, passed from appendix cancer in 2007. 


BOD - Bob Coakley Robert "Bob" Coakley
Currently serves as chairman of COED Media Group, LLC;  In previous years, Bob was the Chairman of Win Futures Inc, a commodity-trading firm on the New York Mercantile Exchange where he also served as a Member of the Board of Directors at the New York Mercantile Exchange.  A graduate of Fordham University, Bob received his bachelors in accounting and finance, he was also a 4 year letterman on both the Swimming Team and Waterpolo Team.  He currently resides with his wife Lisa in Florida with his 2 fur children Karma & Duke. We're proud to say that Bob has been involved with Swim Across America for 23 years, having been the founder the Hudson River event. He currently serves as Treasurer for SAA for over the past 15 years. 


BOD - Hugh

Hugh R. Curran
A Partner at Bletzer & Bletzer, PC where he practices in Connecticut and Massachusetts State and Federal Courts in civil and criminal litigation. Prior to joining Bletzer & Bletzer, PC in 2008, Hugh was a Partner at Bonner Kiernan Trebach & Crociata where he counseled clients and defended matters involving insurance defense, general and products liability, professional malpractice, civil rights, employment, white collar criminal and business litigation matters. From 1988 through 1996 Hugh had a successful career as an Assistant District Attorney in the office of the Suffolk County District Attorney. A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, Hugh received his Bachelor of Arts.  He went on to receive the degree of Juris Doctor from Suffolk University. Hugh currently serves as chairman of the Swim Across America Board of Directors and has been involved since its inception in 1987.


BOD - Bill Hicks Bill Hicks
Divisional Vice President at MassMutual where he leads the Northeast sales team in Retirement Plans Group. He is based in Atlanta, GA where he brings over 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, operations and customer service to MassMutual. He has had experience in multiple industries, individual sales production and business development roles and over the last 15 years business and sales management leadership roles. Prior to MassMutual, Bill was President of Franklin Consulting Group, and Divisional Vice President of John Hancock Retirement Plan Services. He is a graduate from the University of Denver and has an MBA from Emory's Giozueta Business School. Bill has been involved with Swim Across America, Boston for many years and has been a member of the Board of Directors in recent years.

BOD - Scot Mackie  Scot Mackie
The Founder and Managing Partner of THINK Partners.  THINK Partners is an outsourced marketing organization dedicated to raising funds for asset managers.  Prior to founding THINK Partners, Scot was a Managing Director and Head of Asian sales at Morgan Stanley and Macquarie Securities.  Scot was also a Senior Vice President in sales and trading for WI Carr, a premier Hong Kong based broker/dealer.  Scot started his professional career at IBM Corporation as a Vice President and Marketing Representative.  Scot holds professional licenses with FINRA and the SEC including the series 7, 63, 9 and 10.  Scot is a proud member of the Swim Across American community where he has led Team Norm in the Larchmont Swim for 8 years.  Scot joined the board of Swim Across America in 2008.  Scot is married with 6 children and active in youth sports, coaching lacrosse and football.   Scot graduated from Fairfield University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.  


Pam Ryan Bio Pic

Pam Ryan 
Pam joined Goldman Sachs in 1986 after receiving her MS in Management from the Sloan School at MIT. Pam is a graduate of Harvard University where she was Captain of the Harvard Swimming and Diving Team and an NCAA Diving Champion and was inducted into the Harvard Hall of Fame in 1998. Prior to joining Goldman, Pam worked as Director of Data Processing for the Boston Red Sox Baseball Club.  Pam serves on the Board of Directors of the Ipswich YMCA and the Visiting Committee to the Department of Athletics at Harvard.  She became a Vice President of Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 1990 and Managing Director in 2003. 


BOD - Jack Salerno Jack Salerno
Joined EMC in 2003 and has held marketing management positions in Channel Marketing, Commercial Marketing and CLARiiON Product Marketing organizations.  Prior to joining EMC, he was Vice President of Business Development and Product Management for TidalWire, a value added storage networking distributor and Senior Director Channel Sales and Business Development with StorageNetworks, a software company based in Waltham, MA.
Previously he worked in brand management at Procter & Gamble and sales management with IBM Corporation.  He is a graduate of Boston College and received his MBA from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University

BOD - Kevin Shine Kevin Shine
An executive at a leading telecommunications company, responsible for Datacenter Operations and Information Technology support.  Kevin has over 28 years of experience in the IT industry,  including a decade with IBM as a systems engineer, client manager, and  certified consultant.  In addition to Swim Across America, Kevin is involved with many local charities, serving on the Board of MercyFirst Children and Family Services in Syosset, NY, and on the executive committee for our Nassau/Suffolk, Long Island, events.  Kevin graduated from Boston College in 1984 with a degree in computer science and mathematics and currently resides in Garden City, NY,  with his wife Loree and six children: Erinn, Bethany, Cathryne,  Brenna, Mackenzie and Meredith.



Doug Towne 
Doug Towne is currently a Managing Director of HQ Trading LLC. HQ Trading specializes in brokering and trading energy derivatives on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) trading floor, the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) as well as on the over-the counter (OTC) market. 
Doug and his wife Pam created and market a pool toy conceived by their youngest son Garrett. A jigsaw style puzzle, The Underwater Puzzle, is designed to sink to the bottom of a swimming pool where the puzzle is assembled. A life long swimmer, Doug swam for the Badger Swim Club, the Hackley School and the University of Iowa where he studied economics. As a post grad he swam for the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) and now is an assistant swim coach and a member of the committee that manages the NYAC post grad and elite swim programs. It is at the NYAC where Doug met Swim Across America (SAA) Co-founder Jeff Keith. In 1991, after Doug’s father successfully beat throat and colon cancer at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center, Doug participated in his first SAA event, the Nantucket Sound Swim. Doug has now swum in over 30 SAA events including Nantucket, Hudson River, Larchmont, and Glen Cove open water swims and the NYAC pool swim. Doug was on the committees that started the SAA Hudson River, the SAA Greenwich/Stamford and the SAA NYAC events. Currently Co-Chairman of the New York Athletic Club pool swim as it enters its tenth year. Doug resides in Tarrytown, NY with his wife Pam and three children, all who have been active in numerous SAA events.


BOD - Evan Vosburgh  Evan Vosburgh M.D.
Evan Vosburgh is a board certified hematologist and medical oncologist who served on the faculty of the Boston University School of Medicine for 10 years where be combined clinical care, teaching, administrative oversight of clinical research programs in cancer clinical trials, hemophilia, and systemic amyloidosis, including autologous stem cell therapy. Currently he is a clinical associate professor at Yale University School of Medicine and attending physician at the West Haven Veterans Administration Hospital.  Since 2003 he has been the Executive Director of the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Foundation based in New York City and Stamford, CT.  The Foundation provides funding of academic research programs in the US, Europe and Israel across numerous scientific disciplines.  The Foundation also operates a laboratory focused on neuroendocrine cancer biology at the Rutgers Medical School/Cancer Institute of New Jersey where Evan Vosburgh is a clinical associate professor of Medicine.  Evan also serves on the Board of the CT Challenge, a non-profit supporting cancer survivorship programs, and the Board of the Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership Foundation in NYC, an education first/ sports second middle-school program working with inner city students.

Matt Vossler

Co-founder of Swim Across America, and he is proud that the fledging enterprise he started with Jeff Keith has raised over $60 million, and is still growing. As previous Chairman of the Board, Matt has overseen SAA charitable contributions make their way to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center [MSKCC], The Babies and Children’s Hospital of Columbia Presbyterian, The David Perini Clinic at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), and many others. Since 2004 Matt has been a Partner with Heritage Partners International, a retained executive search and consulting company based in Norwalk, CT. Previously, he was associated with a number of other search firms, including Heidrick & Struggles, Inc. Before entering the field of executive search, he was President of Home Buyers Assistance Corporation (HBAC). Matt, who is also a graduate of Boston College where in 2004 he received the Alumni Achievement Award for public service. He calls Darien, CT, home, enjoying life there with his wife Pamela and their two children.

BOD - Burt Z Burt Zweigenhaft
Has extensive experience in a broad spectrum of bio-pharmaceutical services and health care channels - Wholsale, Retail, Chain, Mail, PBM, Specialty, Infusion, Oncology, Disease Management, Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid and Genomic Molecular Theragnostic Diagnostics.  Today, Burt is the CEO of OncoMed, The Oncology Pharmacy.  Prior to the inception of OncoMed, Burt functioned as the Managing Partner of BioPharma Partners, LLC. Burt previously served as Senior V.P. of Managed Care, Government Programs and Business Development Strategies for Priority Healthcare Corporation.  During his tenure at Priority Healthcare, managed care and government programs enrollment grew to over 175 contracts covering 145 million lives and servicing 125,000 physicians specialists managing on average 85,000 patients monthly.  Prior to joining Priority Healthcare in 2002, Burt spent several years serving as a lead specialty pharmacy consultant. Burt also served as President and CEO of American Prescription Providers, the nation's largest specialty pharmacy disease management company focused on HIV/AIDS and organ transplantation acquired by ChroniMed in 2000. He has also held the senior management position of V.P. of Managed Care for CVS PharmaCare and was a co-founder and President of MediRx America.  Burt is a member of the AMCP and ASCO.  He also serves on the Editorials Boards of the Oncology Pharmacist, the Oncology Nurse, Multidisciplinary Oncology and the Value Based Managed Care Pharmaceutical Care publications.  He also serves on the Executive Board of Swim Across America where he is responsible for corporate fundraising.  Burt holds a BS degree in Management and Economics from the University of Buffalo, where he also serves on the Dean's Advisory Committee and is active with their School of Pharmacy.
