Swim Across America Olympians
Thank you to our beloved US Olympic swimmers for 'Making Waves to Fight Cancer' with us. Whether they are joining an open water swim, visiting one of our beneficiaries, representing us at Olympic trials, or leading a clinic, these Olympians represent the best of the swimming world fighting for a cure.
Since our inception in 1987, Swim Across America has been extremely fortunate to have the support of US Olympic Swimmers, some downright legendary in our sport. The athletes' presence and participation have enriched our events over the years, as they provide their own unique brand of inspiration, leadership and direction [the latter sometimes cutting through the water!] Continual involvement like theirs initially engenders and later establishes that dynamic synergy created by the mixture of athleticism, community outreach and direct service ... all integral components of SAA's mission and growth.
Many of the world's greatest swimmers and athletic elite have lent their time and muscle to Swim Across America -- and not only while wearing caps and goggles! They're also creative in the boardroom, detailed at organizational meetings, and talented with media relations. Without their services in these key arenas, there is no doubt: SAA could not possibly be where it is today.
The Olympians who unite for Swim Across America ensure a level of swimming excellence simply unparalleled in any other single location. Want some stats? This group has made a splash in many Olympic events dating back from the Berlin Games in 1936 all the way to Beijing in 2008 ... with aspirations toward London in 2012. Having set many World Records and countless American and Olympic Records [many still in existence], they also stake claim to numerous NCAA titles, including multiple national team championships. By plunging into waters from sea to shining sea for the past 25 years, our Olympic swimmers have shared their strength, determination and perseverance with thousands of SAA participants, who have undoubtedly benefited by mere example. Equally evident [and impressive] is their selflessness and dedication. Many of our Olympians have yet to miss a single year!
To further inspire you, please visit the brief Olympian Biographies on each of our champions. Their heroic stories and remarkable measures of success are motivating forces for all involved with Swim Across America, but it is truly their ceaseless devotion to service which constantly reminds us why we remain committed to a cause as important as cancer research.
