Gemma Spofforth

Gemma Spofforth is a British swimmer who is a world champion and world record holder in backstroke.  She represented Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Olympics where she took 4th in the 100 backstroke and 9th in the 200 backstroke events.  Following up her swims at the Beijing Olympics, she took home gold in the 100 backstroke at the World Championships in Rome while also setting the World Record.

While competing internationally for Great Britain, Gemma also trained in the United States at the University of Florida in Gainesville.  Under Coach Gregg Troy, she became a 5-time NCAA Champion, eleven time All-American, four-time All- SEC selection, two-time SEC Champion, and two-time SEC record holder by the time she graduated in 2010. 

Currently, Gemma trains with the Olympians under Coach Troy at her alma mater, the University of Florida, and she has her eyes set on the 2012 Olympics in London.
