John Moffet

John Moffet

In 1988, the NY Times gave a description of John Moffet: "In many ways, Moffet is a typical swimmer: big (6 feet 1 inch and 186 pounds), bright (a 1987 Stanford graduate), introspective and willing to sacrifice." To those of us at Swim Across America, John is a world-class athlete and a loyal friend with a philanthropic heart.

John made the US Olympic swim team twice - first for the Moscow Olympics in 1980 and second for the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. In 1985 he won three gold medals at both the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships and the Summer Universiade.

John was first introduced to SAA by long time friend and fellow Olympian Craig Beardsley, who invited him to join us for the second annual San Francisco Bay Swim in 2008. After getting to know our swimmers and volunteers, John was hooked. He returned to the Bay in 2009, this time to swim in the 1.5 mile course.

John is an Emmy Award winning television producer who lives in LA with his wife and two children.
