In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. As the years go by, I have more and more friends and family members whose survival is a testament to amazing advances in research and the resulting treatments. Last year I'm swam in honor of my father-in-law, Ron Wisthuff, who recently won a hard-fought battle with aggressive lymphoma. This year I'm swimming in honor of my mother-in-law, Lois Wisthuff, the tireless caregiver who was with Ron every step of the way. (That's just how she rolls.:+)
While treatments have come a long way, every year the families in our community seem to lose another young parent or child to cancer. More research is needed to eradicate this deadly disease, so I am participating in Swim Across America's 43 mile relay across Lake Michigan on August 18-19 to raise $5,000 for cancer research, prevention and treatment at Rush. I would greatly appreciate anything you can do to support my race. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
