2017 marks the seventh year we will bring Swim Across America to Dallas. The funds raised go to the Innovative Clinical Trials Center at the Baylor Cancer Center in Dallas. Through the efforts of our swimmers, volunteers, sponsors and donors we have helped fund promising Phase 1 Clinical Trials that give hope to those who have exhausted all conventional treaments for their cancer and helped advance the global fight against cancer.
My personal story is that my wife of 37 years, Elia, had breast cancer 14 years ago and is a survivor. We thank God Elia was cured of cancer. Clearly some of the thanks also goes to the Dallas professional medical community which continues significant advances through research. I swim in honor of my wife and best friend Elia Dunne. I swim in memory of my good friend and fellow banker that died of cancer a number of years ago, Buck Horn. On September 30th, in Rockwall harbor on Lake Ray Hubbard I will swim a 1.5 mile open water swim race to raise money for cancer research. This is a cause that has significance to me, as I have set a personal goal to raise at least $2,500. Last year thanks to many of you I was sponsored for $3,025. Further, Bank of Texas, my employer, is one of the corporate sponsors of the event again this year. In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. Please join me and sponsor me with a $ donation on this 1.5 mile open water swimming event for a worthy cause.
The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity.
Swimmingly Yours, Patrick Dunne
