Team Loretta’s Gills
was created in loving memory of
Loretta Blazic Kelley
On the first day of the New Year in 2016, less than four months after her diagnosis, Loretta succumbed to lung cancer and complications of its treatment. Loretta’s Gills, is a team tribute to her life and her legacy. The colors of the team logo, turquoise and pearl represent lung cancer awareness. The gills in our team name represent lungs and her girls who swim - her daughters and granddaughter.
"The Gills" are back again this year, first dedicating an off-site swim, the La Jolla Cove 10 Mile Relay on September 24, to honor her memory and celebrate her life. Just 6 days later, Loretta's Gills will join Swim Across America Dallas and swim 3 miles in Lake Ray Hubbard to honor, support, and encourage family and friends currently in treatment for cancer. Mom was a caring and dedicated nurse so it is only natural for her "Gills" to carry on that legacy of helping others.
Loretta's Gills are swimming to raise money and fund the research and clinical trials desperately needed to advance the standard of care for cancer treatment. We are also swimming to raise awareness and advocate for lung cancer screening and early detection in high-risk individuals. We are swimming for LUNGevity!
Please consider making a donation to help. All proceeds will benefit the Swim Across America Innovative Clinical Trials Center (ICTC) at Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center. The ICTC offers patients better access to a wide range of new research and treatment options, and expands the already extensive program of cancer clinical trials offered. Your donation in any amount will help.
You can make a credit card donation by clicking on the DONATE NOW link to make a team donation, or by clicking on one of the members of our team to donate on their personal page, or by sending a check to Swim Across America, c/o Lydia Chase, 7317 Fisher Road, Dallas, TX 75214
Loretta’s Gills thank you for your generous support and encouragement.
