Cancer still steals the health and lives of people we love..... so once again, I join with others to raise money for cancer research, prevention and treatment by swimming with the jellyfish through the glorious waters of the Long Island Sound. This is the 26th year anniversary of the Long Island Sound swim and our 19th year swimming in NY as Team Kelly . Initially I formed this team to honor my parents and while that remains true, in the years since my parents died, cancer has hit my age-peers hard as well. Just a year ago, cancer complications took my full-of-life-and-joy friend, Jim Rubin, and prior to that cancer killed my friends, Ellen Dierkes and Cristy Rocks. It doesn't stop; last month my cousin was diagnosed with brain cancer and my good friend with breast cancer.
I'm sure all of you have people you love who have been diagnosed with this disease and I hope are making it through. However, until this vicious disease is cured or I can't swim anymore, even though you may be tired of me contacting you ever here, we continue to Make Waves to Fight Cancer, to honor those who have passed, to support those who struggle with cancer and those they leave behind. On July 28th we take the plunge again-- Any contribution you can make-- big or small--makes a difference and is much appreciated.
You can make a credit card donation here, or send a check directly to the swimmer you are supporting, or to Swim Across America, P.O. Box 217, Larchmont, NY 10538.
