Family and Friends:
It is hard to comprehend this will be our 10th year swimming with Swim Across America. We’ve had immeasurable fun and created unforgettable memories each year, and we are excited to once again contribute to such a great cause. On July 29th, we will once again dive into the water and participate in Swim Across America’s Long Island Sound 2K Open Water Swim. Along with our 10th year, this will also be the 25th anniversary of this event, which we are thrilled to be a part of.
Swim Across America is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, treatment, and prevention programs through swimming events nationwide. The Long Island Sound Open Water Swim began in 1992, raising $15,000 for cancer research. Last year, this event raised over $1,000,000, adding to the millions raised since its inception. We, along with the hundreds of other swimmers that jump of the dock in Larchmont, hope to continue to raise funds so that a cure can be found for this disastrous disease, and we are encouraged by the success of the organization and that of its beneficiaries. In 2011, the SAA lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering was instrumental in the development of a new, USFDA approved drug to help combat skin cancer. And just this year, the FDA approved the new cancer-genetics drug KEYTRUDA, which was tested at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg-Kimmel Institute. Johns Hopkins’ testimonial letter acknowledged Swim Across America as the first organization to provide grant funding for this drug’s trials. We hope to continue to help Swim Across America and its beneficiaries as we join them this year.
Our team was formed to honor the memory of Ed Larmann. Ed was a selfless, larger-than-life man who always thought of others before himself. Sadly, we lost Ed to lung cancer nine years ago at the age of 55. His love of life and one-of-a-kind personality will always be remembered by those who knew him.
We swim every year to honor Ed, as well as to honor all of those who have lost their fight with cancer and those who still fight today. Please consider donating to our team in support of such a good cause. Any donation is extremely appreciated!
