Team Calum

TEAM CALUM This year for our 25th anniversary team Clare/Oma will be swimming in honor of a very special person. His name is Calum Murray and he turned three years old last November 2016. Right before Christmas, his Mom and Dad had a sinking feeling that something was just not right with Calum. The day after Christmas his mother took him for blood work and, within hours, Calum was sent to the emergency room at the Maria Ferari Children's hospital where shortly after they received his official diagnosis of B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Calum was transferred to Memorial Sloane Kettering where he immediately began an aggressive treatment to fight his cancer. In early February Calum was given the news he achieved remission. Following three years of treatment we have every reason to believe he will be cured of Leukemia. Calum has shown us how much courage and strength is possible in a three year old. Every Friday he posts a "Happy Friday Everyone” video on Instagram to make sure "we" all know he is doing well. He is an amazing person who teaches us all how to fight and persevere. He is blessed to have wonderful and caring parents, Caitlin and Mike, who have provided a lifetime of love and compassion. His little sister Faye also gives Calum the spirit to fight every day. We swim today to honor Calum and know in our hearts he will be swimming with us someday soon, cured and healthy!
