Once again, we’re still here and ready to do it again.
While Team Mackey has had a change/reduction in its roster, we are still a strong team that is motivated by our inspiration, Bill (who is approaching his seventh year of being cancer free) as well as the SAA itself - celebrating its 31st year in existence and 26th anniversary of the Long Island Sound swim in Larchmont. Weather kept us from entering the LIS last year so hopefully we will not be denied this year.
As for Team Mackey, we continue to be inspired by the tenacity of the researchers who are making tangible progress in finding cures for cancer and the courageousness of those and their families afflicted by this disease. Equally, we remain humbled by the knowledge that ones loved dearly will pass before specific cures for their affliction may be found.
The swim has also taken a different viewpoint for one of its founding members. In 2017, Tim Helms was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He had a procedure and his prognosis is good, so much so that he will be swimming again this year, joining the many cancer survivors who participate in this event.
So please help us again Make Waves to Fight Cancer!
Swim Across America, Inc., [SAA] is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming- related events. With the help of hundreds of volunteers nationwide and past and current Olympians, SAA is helping find a cure for cancer through athleticism, community outreach and direct service.
