Welcome to the Swim Across America - Hamptons Open Water Swim. Swimmers of all ages are invited to take part in our annual event in beautiful Fresh Pond Beach. Whether you are a veteran swimmer or you're looking to do your first open water swim, we welcome you to help us fight cancer at Fighting Chance of Sag Harbor which provides cancer counseling and navigation services free of charge to patients on the east end of Long Island.

Online Registration is now CLOSED. You may still register on Saturday morning at check-in. Fundraising minimums still apply!

All swimmers raise money to support the cause, and those who feel particularly motivated to raise even more, can register as WaveMaker Swimmers.  We welcome you to help us "Make Waves to Fight Cancer!"

Thank you to our generous Nassau-Suffolk sponsors for their support in our fight against cancer.

EVENT DAY TIMELINE

2015 Hamptons Timeline

General Info

Be a WaveMaker Swimmer:

WaveMakers are elite SAA fundraisers. All swimmers raise at least $250 (fundraising minimums vary per distance - see swimmer requirements tab), but WaveMakers (WM) go above and beyond the call of duty by pledging to raise at least $1000. You can sign up to be a WaveMaker when you register but, even if you don't, you will automatically become one when you hit the $1000 mark. WMs get an exclusive WM dry fit shirt, worn by all SAA WaveMakers across the country. They also get access to the WM village on event day where they will have access to other perks and swag. Click here for more information.

Swim as an Individual, or on a Team

A person may elect to swim alone, or be part of a team. Many colleagues and college alumni will form teams, or teams may be formed in honor or memory of a loved one. All teams are inspirational and rewarding for all of us involved with Swim Across America.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the glue that holds our event together! If you are looking to get involved in our swim event but aren't quite ready to jump in the water, this is your way in.  We always need land volunteers and kayakers (must bring own kayak).  To join us as a volunteer you can either Register as an Individual on this page and then choose your volunteer type or "Join an Existing Team."  Either one of these options will register you to be a volunteer. If you would like to volunteer as part of another team, you can do that as well, just search for that team under "Join an Existing Team."

Also bring with you any additional donations you have collected and not yet turned in.

Once you are checked in, you will receive a swim cap, and be marked with your number. Personal belongings will be bagged and tagged, and available to you at the finish line.

IMPORTANT: All swimmers must attend the swim director's safety meeting on the morning of the swim. This meeting will take place approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of your distance.

Awards Ceremony: Once ALL swimmers have exited the water, each swimmer and their guests are invited to attend the post swim brunch and awards on the beach! During the brunch, the SAA Committee will recognize the people and organizations that helped create this event. We will also recognize our event's beneficiaries!

The Course

All swimmers start and return to the extreme bottom left angle (Fresh Pond Beach, Amagansett). The smallest triangle is the 1/2 mile swim course, the second largest triangle is the 1 mile course and the largest triangle is the 3 mile swim.

Swimmer Safety

SAA - Nassau/Suffolk's priority is always the safety of our swimmers, volunteers and guests. To that end we have planned this event both in the water and on the land, to provide you the safest and most enjoyable experience. Our swims are not a race. While clocks with elapsed times may be located on the beach, this a swim and not a masters sanctioned event.

SAA reserves the right to remove any swimmer before or during the event for non-compliance with these rules or for creating a safety hazard for any swimmer, including him/herself.

During the Swim

Swimmers must stay on the marked course. The course markings will be given to you on the morning of the swim at the swim director's meeting. If a swimmer goes off the marked course, or is lagging too far behind, SAA reserves the right to regroup the swimmer. This will be done in the interest of all swimmers and due to time constraints.

If a swimmer is in need of assistance, that swimmer, if able, should remove his/her cap and wave it. You will be assisted by a nearby kayaker or lifeguard, then a nearby boat if neccessary. If a swimmer decides to exit the water onto a boat on his/her own accord, or if a swimmer is removed from the water by SAA for hypothermia, cramping, dehydration, exhaustion or other disability, that swimmer will not be allowed to re-enter the water for safety reasons. The swim director, East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue Squad or Harbor Patrol have the discretion to ask someone to be removed for safety reasons.

Post Swim

Once on the beach at Fresh Pond, all swimmers must proceed through the finish line and to the checkout table. SAA volunteers will be there with fresh water and a towel to greet you. All swimmers who are unable to finish the event under their own power must proceed to the checkout table on the beach at Fresh Pond Beach as soon as they arrive there. Upon completing the event, all swimmers should remain on or near the beach at Fresh Pond to cheer on swimmers finishing behind them and to make the finish more exciting!
