Friends and Family, this year I am once again swimming in the Rhode Island Swim Across America with the UConn swim team. Swim Across America is a charity dedicated to raising money to help fund cancer research, and while each and every year is a meaningful event, this year is particularly important to me. Just under two weeks ago, I learned of the passing of a longtime family friend, Willie Hughes, after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with brain cancer. Will was an avid swimmer, and I had the pleasure of being both a teammate and a coach for him while he swam for the Merrimack Maniacs. Will had an infectious smile, and I will never forget his courage and strength in the face of this awful disease. I think his brother Jack put it best, “He loved everything about his life since day one and that never changed.” I am swimming this year in his honor and would greatly appreciate your support by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment so that one day soon we can live in a world where no one has to go through the battle Will did. Thank you for your generosity. #WillieStrong
