me again! thank you for your past support two years running - i won the rookie fundraiser bathing cap and had the time of my life year 1. year 2, i raised the most money of all participants and had the roughest, coldest, longest swim of my life. but nothing compared to the rocky journey kids face when they get cancer.
i continue to hate cancer. it kills me when i hear about people who are battling it, people who have lost their lives to it and the worst - when a kid gets cancer. it is sneaky and unpredictable. we all have too many friends, family members and especially young people are getting cancer and looking at a shortened life. while we are making great strides, we must continue to implore our legislators to continue to fund cancer research, ask that big pharma keep pouring money into r and d, and just keep fighting the fight.
in the meantime, i am joining some friends and swimming from the golden gate bridge to the sf shore and ask that you please sponsor me - $5, $10, $1000 (for those big fish!) whatever you can give will go to helping fight the fight. i'm going to swim in memory of my dad, joe, who died way too young at 71 from pancreatic cancer. i will also pay tribute to a golfing friend - mimi hunter, who just lost her battle, after showing us how to live courageously and stay positive for the past couple of years. and always in honor of every day people who live with the disease or support friends and family fighting the disease. and also for my brother in law, rob, whose life was simply cut way too short.
the money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment for pediatric cancer - to a lab that is helping provide custom cancer treatments and survivor programs for teens. the kids who get up and speak on the boat on race day are nothing short of amazing and inspiring.
