it's me again! thank you for your past support three years running - i won the rookie fundraiser bathing cap and had the time of my life year 1. year 2, i raised the most money of all participants and had the roughest, coldest, longest swim of my life. but nothing compared to the rocky journey kids face when they get cancer. year 3 was a good swim and i think i hit over $30,000.
for year 4 - i'm posting $25k for my goal, but hope to go higher! i think this will be my last - i'm getting old, i don't love the cold as much, ...and next year i want to do something different in the fighting cancer realm. i tell you this, so you will dig extra deep this year!
i continue to hate cancer. every week i hear about some new horrific story or read a life story of someone gone way too young, way too soon. while we are making great strides, we must continue to implore our legislators to continue to fund cancer research, ask that big pharma keep pouring money into r and d, and just keep fighting the fight.
as in years before, i'm going to swim in memory of my dad, joe, who died way too young at 71 from pancreatic cancer. i will also pay tribute to every day people who live with the disease or support friends and family fighting the disease. and also for my brother in law, rob, whose life was simply cut way too short.
the money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment for pediatric cancer - to a lab that is helping provide custom cancer treatments and survivor programs for teens. the kids who get up and speak on the boat on race day are nothing short of amazing and inspiring.
