This is my first year with Swim Across America. And I’m excited that I’m going to do it with Jess, my 12 year old son. My personal motivation for joining is to honor my aunt, who is living with cancer. My wife lost her father to cancer some time ago, before we got married. Even though I never met him, his presence is strong in our house. And my inspiration for swimming is Susan Helmrich, who is simply awesome in the pool. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll swim like her one day.
If you had told me two years ago that I would swim in the SF Bay, I would have said you were nuts. I couldn’t even swim a lap in the pool. But then I saw Jess doing swim team and I was blown away. That got me started. Now I swim as much as I can. Last year I thought there was no way I could have the stamina for Swim Across America. Now I’m going to do it with my son. It’s amazing how swimming has changed our lives. Swimming has been personally rewarding, but now we get to participate in something bigger than ourselves and help to make a difference.
Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
