Dear friends/liebe Freunde
In 2016, I participated in SwimmAcrossAmerica for the first time. After 7 short weeks of preparation in a swiming pool and in the Aquatic Park in San Francisco I participated in the exciting 1.75 miles open water swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to Little Marina Green together with over 350 swimmers an one common cause: Making Waves and raising funds to fight pediatric cancer!
The swim event itself is a unique inspiring community experience where you arrive at 5 am in the morning at Little Marina Green, then you take a ride with a Cable Car bus to the Piers, before you listen to stories of cancer survivors and people who were touched one way or another by cancer in their family during the boat ride from Pier 1 to the Golden Gate Bridge. The sense of community and shared purpose in this moment is inspiring and when you jump of the boat below the Golden Gate Bridge, it's a roller coaster of emotions that shape your memory and drive your muscles ;-). In 2017, we jumped next to a Whale (!) in the 16 degrees cold water and arrived after 50 minutes on time for the celebration with family members, little cancer survivors and about 20 Olympians who participated in the US Olympics swim team over the last 20 years.
In 2017, we doubled the size of the team (22) and also doubled our contribution (> 45K !). For 2018 we aimed at 35 team members and 100K fundraising for kids who truly suffer from this terrible disease. We are at 40 team members now and I am confident that we can achieve our stretch goals with your help and the support of many who believe that our engagement is meaningful and makes a difference. Thank you for your kind support and for your donation !
