In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. In MY lifetime I have had 7 immediate family members diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that.
I am swimming for my Uncle Jose who has been battling Multiple Myeloma since 2007. He has three wonderful children and a beautiful wife. When diagnosed he was given a 10 year life expectancy. Thanks to an amazing team of doctors and his sheer will power, that 10 years is approaching and he is less than 1% away from remission. For my Aunt LeeAnne who was just recently diagnosed in 2016. She has 4 boys and a super loving husband. She surpasses expectations on a daily basis mainly because she is a hard headed, go getting, ass kicker, but also because she has a strong treatment plan and an even stronger support system. I am swimming in memory of Thomas McLaughlin who was taken far too soon by Melanoma. He is survived by two beautiful children, his mom, brother and sister (my BFF) plus a huge extended family.
I am challenging myself by swimming in the Seattle Open Water Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer as I can. I wish I could eradicate this disease by myself but that is not an option. We need to fund research so that amazing humans like my Aunt and Uncle aren't affected ever again. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!

Check should be made out to Swim Across America but please include a note mentioning my name as the swimmer you are supporting!
