More than 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Chances are you or a family member have already been affected by cancer and I am no different. I am swimming this race for three important swimming influences in my life.
The first person I am swimming for is Ralph Crocker. Ralph was one of the best coaches that I had the honor of swimming for and he passed away in 2007 from cancer. Ralph was one of my college coaches at Auburn University and he helped me learn a lot about myself. He pushed me to go harder than I ever expected to go in the pool all the while keeping a smile on both of our faces. He was a great man.
The next person I will be swimming for is my good friend, Eric Shanteau. Eric was diagnosed with cancer shortly before the 2008 Olympics and still managed to put together an amazing race and put himself on the Olympic team. He has always been one of the most humble and hardworking guys I know. As a teammate he always pushed me to be my best. He is a great husband and father and I am honored to swim for him.
The last person I will be swimming for is my uncle, David Dudley. My uncle David has always been extremely supportive to me in my swimming career and traveled great distances to watch me compete. His encouraging words to me as a young athlete meant a lot. I pray for a speedy recovery in his current battle with cancer.
Please help me make an impact in the fight to find a cure by making a tax free contribution to support my swim. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
