Every 15 minutes, 50 Americans are diagnosed with cancer. This is a sobering reality and has touched many of us, even here in our Olde Georgetowne swim family. We are excited to partner with Swim Across America in the fight against cancer this summer.
Swim Across America, the official charity for swimmers, exists to raise money for a network of doctors and researchers who are the pioneers developing new cures and treatments for cancer. Since its inaugural season in 1987, SAA has grown from a single event in Nantucket, MA, to 15 open water benefit swims across the country and 100 annual pool swims.
This summer SAA is working with Charlotte area swim teams and hosting benefit swims to support leukemia research and clinical trials at Levine Cancer Institute here in Charlotte, NC. All funds raised in Charlotte stay local. The good news is that every year millions of Americans are beating cancer through advancements in treatments from research.
