Join the Kiawah Island Open Water Swim and Fight Cancer with Swim Across America. Swimmers of all ages and levels are invited to take part in our inaugural Kiawah Island swim. Your participation will help us "Make Waves to Fight Cancer" and raise money for cancer research, prevention and treatment.

Swim Across America is excited to host the inaugural Kiawah Island benefit swim and open water clinic this July 23rd!

Join SAA Olympians and Triathlon coaches at this renowned scenic destination as a way to fight cancer by fundraising to support clinical trials and research at Swim Across America Labs.

We will start the morning with an open water swim clinic, followed by a 0.5-mile swim. A special luncheon with Olympians will be held beachside for those who meet the fundraising goal.

Clinic information: Our experienced coaching staff will offer a 45 minute open water skills and technique clinic. Topics covered will include ocean entries, exits, sighting, turns around a buoy, evaluation of swimming technique, and more!

SWIMMER INFORMATION

Registration Fees:

There is a tax-deductible registration fee that will be credited towards each swimmer's fundraising minimum.

  • General Swimmer: $75
  • Registered participants in the Kiawah Island Triathlon: $50 (code will be provided)

Online registration will close 48 hours prior to the swim! Event day registration may still be available if space permits.

Suggested Fundraising Goal: $300 for all swimmers

Your registration covers the cost of the open water clinic and participation in the swim. If you hit the $300 fundraising goal, you'll also get the opportunity to eat lunch with the Olympians after the swim as well as receiving an SAA shirt and towel!

WaveMaker Swimmer: $1,000 minimum:

WaveMakers are elite SAA fundraisers and go above and beyond the call of duty by pledging to raise at least $1,000 regardless of your age. WaveMakers get an exclusive WM apparel gift in addition to all the other fundraising perks.

Swim as an Individual, or on a Team

A person may elect to swim alone, or be part of a team. Many colleagues and college alumni will form teams, or teams may be formed in honor or memory of a loved one. All team members are still required to meet their individual fundraising minimums based on their age, distance or WaveMaker status as noted in the prior sections.

Distance:

A 0.5-Mile Ocean Course will be set up for all participants following the Open Water Swim Clinic.

Waiver:

All swimmers and volunteers must complete a waiver to participate.

SCHEDULE

7:30-8:00am: Check-in for Clinic

8:00am-8:15am: Welcome

8:15am-8:30am: Beach Transition and Warm-Up

8:30am-9:15am: Clinic

9:15-9:30am: Break, Snacks, Q&A

9:30am: 1/2-Mile Open Water Course

10:30am: Course Closes

Post-swim: Speeches, Awards & Olympian Lunch

Every swimmer who participates will receive a Swim Across America cap and tattoos! Raise the amounts below and receive great SAA items for your efforts!

Saturday, July 22nd

Join the fight against cancer with Swim Across America and Freshfields Village on the Village Green from 2-6 PM. The community fundraising event will include live music, Olympian appearances, sponsor games, raffles and participating discounts from stores and restaurants.

OLYMPIANS AND CLINIC COACHES

Olympians

Carlton Bruner (1996) - Represented Team USA at the 1996 Summer Olympics in his hometown of Atlanta, in the 1500-meter freestyle event. Two-time NCAA champion at the University of Florida.

Steve Gregg (1976) - Silver medalist for Team USA in the 200-butterfly at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. NCAA champion in 1976 at North Carolina State University.

Ashley Whitney (1996) - Gold medalist in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay for Team USA at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In college, swam for Georgia's NCAA national championship team before finishing her collegiate career at California-Berkley.

HOW TO FUNDRAISE

If this is your first time participating or if you just need some tips to be a better fundraiser, click here. It will walk you through the participant center and teach you how to email donors, share on social media sites and download the fundraising app.

SAFETY

Swim Across America makes swimmer safety the most important component of all our swimming events. A Safety Director is responsible for coordinating all activities within an event, and works closely with the local Fire, Police and EMT's to ensure swimmer safety. We will have a number of lifeguards, safety kayakers and safety boats out on the course with us to ensure swimmer safety at all times. All boats are able to communicate via both hand held and ship to shore radios. All swimmers are required to follow specific procedures to participate in the event. These procedures are designed to protect swimmers from injury and will be enforced by the Safety Director.

Waiver:

All swimmers and volunteers must complete a waiver to participate.
