ABOUT

Online Registration is now closed. On-site registration will be available Saturday beginning at 6:30 am. Fundraising minimums will apply.

The 2017 SAA - St. Louis benefit swim is hosted by Innsbrook Resort and the swim will take place in Alpine Lake, the largest of Innsbrook’s 100-plus lakes. Participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to choose their open-water distance: 1/2 mile, 1.2 mile, or a 2.4 mile. We also offer opportunities to volunteer as a boater, kayaker or land volunteer. This event is not a competition, but a fun and inspiring fundraising event for everyone. Proceeds from the swim will stay local and support Siteman Cancer Center. We had a great inaugural year in 2016, hosting 5 Olympians, hundreds of swimmers from individuals to clubs to high school and college teams. We need your help to make 2017 even better!

Thank you to all the interested volunteer kayakers! We currently do not need any more kayak volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please contact our volunteer coordinator, Denise, for more information on available volunteer positions.

EVENT DETAILS
SWIMMER REQUIREMENTS

General Fundraising Requirement:

All swimmers are required to raise at least $300 by event day. Swimmers under 18 are required to raise $100 by event day.

WaveMaker Swimmer: $1,000 minimum:

WaveMakers are elite SAA fundraisers and go above and beyond the call of duty by pledging to raise at least $1,000 regardless of your age. You can sign up for any of the 3 distances. WaveMakers get an exclusive WM gift and access to the WM village on event day where they will have access to other perks and swag.

Swim as an Individual, or on a Team:

A person may elect to swim alone, or be part of a team. Many colleagues and college alumni will form teams, or teams may be formed in honor or memory of a loved one. All teams are inspirational and rewarding for all of us involved with Swim Across America. Teams must have a minimum of 3 swimmers and each swimmer is still required to meet the individual fundraising minimum of $300 ($100 if under 18).

Distance Options:

  • 0.5 Mile
  • 1.2 Mile
  • 2.4 Mile

Registration Fees:

There is a registration fee that will be credited towards each swimmer's fundraising minimum. The registration fee will change as follows:

  • Register between June 16th and July 31st with a registration fee of $50
  • Register between August 1st and event day with a registration fee of $100

All swimmers and volunteers must complete the waiver found here.

What to Bring

In addition to bringing any donations you have collected, please remember to bring the following items: directions to Innsbrook Resort, a towel, sunscreen, a baseball hat or equivalent to shade your face, sweatshirt, sweatpants, 2 pairs of goggles, disposable camera (optional), give your cell phones a break for the day, and don't forget a labeled bag that zips to put everything in!

Wetsuits

In consideration of current lake temperatures (78-80 degrees), wetsuits are permitted for 2017 SAA - St. Louis.

How to choose a wetsuit that’s suitable for swimming?
Swimming/triathlon wetsuits are very different from scuba and diving wetsuits. There are many differences, but one of the main reasons to choose a swimming/triathlon wetsuit is because of the slick, water repellant surface that reduces water resistance and drag. Another reason is for the range of flexibility and buoyancy that a swimming/triathlon wetsuit offers, versus one designed for surfing or diving.

How to choose a wetsuit that fits well?
A wetsuit that is too loose or big will take on extra water...you then have to carry that with you through the swim! It is expected, with a suit that fits correctly, to have a very small layer of water in between the suit and your body. A wetsuit that is too tight may cause anxiety and difficulty breathing.

Course Maps

There will be 1/2 mile, 1.2 mile, and 2.4 mile distance options for the swim in 2017.

SAFETY

Swim Across America makes swimmer safety the most important component of all our swimming events. A Safety Director is responsible for coordinating all activities within an event, and works closely with the local Fire, Police and EMT's to ensure swimmer safety. We will have a number of lifeguards, safety kayakers and safety boats out on the course with us to ensure swimmer safety at all times. All boats are able to communicate via both hand held and ship to shore radios. All swimmers are required to follow specific procedures to participate in the event. These procedures are designed to protect swimmers from injury and will be enforced by the Safety Director.

As we had last year, there will be a number of “Angel Swimmers” available at the event to accompany less experienced swimmers on their swim.

Waiver:

All swimmers and volunteers must complete the waiver found here.
