Hi, I'm Maya, and I'm 9 years old. I will be swimming for the 4th year in a row at the Swim Across America open water event at Lake Lanier on September 26, 2020 to raise money for children's cancer research. This year, I will be swimming the 1/2 mile event for the second time! Mom will make sure I have an Angel Swimmer swimming with me to keep me safe!! I hope to have fun with my friends and to raise as much money as I can for cancer research. Last year, I raised over $100 at my "Taking a Stand against Cancer" Lemonade Stand -- I hope to raise even more this year! I want to help people fight this disease because not only grown-ups get this disease but kids too. Grace Bunke was a fellow Swim Atlanta swimmer with incurable bone cancer, and she died in 2018. She has inspired me to raise as much money as I can.
SAA granted a record $5.6 million in 2018 that will fund over 30 research projects in 2019. In over three decades, Swim Across America has granted over $80 million dollars that have lead to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, gene therapy, personalized medicine, and new cancer detection methods. It is important that donors know that our grant agreement requires 100% of SAA grants be applied to approved projects and not other things such as overhead and buildings.
You can make a credit card donation here by pressing the "Donate Now" button, or send a check to Swim Across America, c/o Nancy Peek, PO Box 1078, Tucker, GA 30085. **If you send a check, it should be made out to Swim Across America, but please include a note mentioning my name as the swimmer you are supporting!
