Hello. My name is Renee Zhu. I support cancer research through various methods. One of them is selling cookies.
We learned in health class that cancer is the #2 cause of death in the U.S, second only to heart disease. Cancer causes 609,640 deaths a year in the USA alone. Here, where I live, we have advanced medical equipment and hospitals and screenings and all kinds of other good stuff to try to prevent cancer. Even then, that is still not enough. That's why I have teamed up with Swim Across America to help raise money to support research.
Last year, I swam a mile in Lake Lanier. This year, I am swimming a 5k.
My grandfather died 5 years ago. He died because of stomach cancer. I missed him then. I still miss him now. He was a selfless man that wanted nothing but happiness for others. I can only hope that when he is reincarnated, he can be the happiest man in the world and that he can live a happy life that is not plagued with things like cancer.
If he was alive today, he would be 94. We could have made a phone call to him, to tell him happy Chinese New Year. Now, we can only fly to China and go visit his ashes that are sitting in a small wooden box, and tell him what has happened during all of the years that he was gone. I like to think that if he was alive, he would be fighting. Fighting for his life. Fighting against cancer.
Cancer may have started this fight, but together, we can finish it.
