Since 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer research that would lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next generation of pioneers in oncology and cancer-support care. 

I joined Swim Across America for the first time in 2023 because of a girl on my neighborhood swim team who had brain cancer. Emerson passed away five years ago when she was only eleven years old (I turn eleven this year). Her older sister, Regan, has been my neighborhood swim coach in the past and my family has supported The Smasherson Foundation for several years now. This year, I'm swimming 1 mile open water in Lake Lanier to raise money to help find a cure for pediatric brain cancer in memory and honor of Emerson.
