Spring is here and it's time to SWIM ACROSS AMERICA! On Sunday, April 5, 2020 approx. 200 swimmers of all ages and ability levels - from recreational to Masters and former Olympians - will complete a 90-min pool relay challenge and raise money for cancer research. Please help us improve the lives of cancer survivors and make me proud to live in this great city.
Boston has the Dana Farber Perini Quality of Life Clinic and MassGeneral Hospital for Children's Cancer Center - two amazing facilities that help survivors of childhood cancers manage the long-term effects of cancer. Thanks to incredible advances in science and medicine, childhood cancer is no longer a fatal diagnosis. Survivorship comes with numerous complex issues, however: the long-term effects of treatment and the risk of second cancers, as well as social and psychological concerns.
The SAA Boston events are one of my favorite activities each year. Here's why I swim:
- The people are inspiring! From the patients undergoing cancer treatments, to the incredible doctors and nurses who work tirelessly for a cure, to my fellow athletes (both young and old) who find friendship and fulfillment through the sport of swimming, I always look forward to this annual gathering.
- Even though we're small fish in a big pond, WE ALL CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TOGETHER. If we each do our part, no matter how small, the world will be a better place.
- And finally, what better than swimming on my "home turf" at Harvard University. Blodgett Pool is the perfect spot for a relay challenge.

Thank you so very much!
