My Why
Swim Across America Charlotte Open Water Swim was established in 2017 and has donated over $750,000 to the Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children's Hospital located in Charlotte. The donations are applied towards funding cancer research and educational programs. Their research emphasizes on acute myeloid leukemia, stem cell transplants, and optimal cancer care.
For a number of years I have participated in this event to help make an impact in the fight against cancer. I get to utilize my passion for swimming and put in a little grunt work to earn your generous donations, so together we can make an impact.
Like many, my family has been tremendously impacted by cancer. Each year I do this event I have a personal reminder to not give up on the fight against cancer. This year, I am swimming to honor my cousin, Derek McCormick who is currently fighting like hell to beat cancer, AGAIN. He is so strong and courageous in his fight, while never losing his fun-loving spirit. Derek is undergoing experimental treatment that typically comes from funded research from organizations like the Levine Cancer Institute.
While I am not comfortable asking for donations, I will stand up to ask you to help support the fight against cancer. I hope my 2 mile open water swim will be enough to earn your donation to such a great cause.
Thank you
Bill
