Welcome to Stephen "SCUBA" Brown Personal Page
Just an update; I'm $6,789 of my $10,000 goal with one month left. Help me make my goal.
Each year I participate in the Swim Across America( SAA) - Charlotte Open Water swim. SAA host 21 open water swim in the United States. SAA's mission is to raise funds for cancer research, clinical trails, and patient programs. This year, Sunday October 3rd, I am co-captaining with Katie Kalka and our swim coach, Patty Waldron for MSA Team Out of my Box. Our team goal is $50,000 and 70 swimmers.
My personal goal this year is $10,000 but i would like to get more. Also each Month i will share with you a type of cancer that has impacted my friends and family.
I will be doing this in memory of BJ Correll, Michael Schrodel, Randy Eleworth, Gary Garbers (SEAL), Dywane Osgood( Marine), and in honor of Jeff Davis (Navy Chief), Wally Johnson( SEAL), Rick "HYDRO" Hyser( SEAL), Eric Lenhert(SEAL), Richard Stayska(Green Beret), Tripp Clapper, Raenelle Sederquist, Merritt Plummer, Jason Meyers, Myra Rowell, Maya DeWalker(MayaStrong), Eric Gertz, Bill Humbertson, Catherine Ashbridge, Stephen Ashbridge and all those that are fighting the good fight and those who gave it their all.
There are three main types of blood cancers. Leukemia is a cancer found in your blood and bone marrow, lymphoma is a blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system and myeloma is a blood cancer that specifically targets plasma cells. Each year, these types of cancer account for approximately 10% of all new cancer diagnoses.
· An estimated 186,400 new cases of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma will be diagnosed in the U.S. in 2021, with 57,750 deaths expected to result from the diagnosis.
· Every three minutes, one person in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
· Leukemias are the most common cancers in children and account for 28% of all childhood cancers.
· More than 1.2 million people in the U.S. are either living with or in remission today from a blood cancer.
Thanks to organizations like Swim Across America and their’s funding we continue to make waves for cancer research, clinical trials and patient programs. Someday THERE will be a cure for cancer.
Help me make a tidal wave to wipeout cancer for good!!
Check should be made out to Swim Across America but please include a note mentioning my name as the swimmer you are supporting!
