Welcome to Michael Grunwald's Personal Page
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming in the Charlotte Open Water Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer as I can. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
As a hematologist/oncologist and investigator, I am raising money in an effort to bring more effective and safer therapies to our leukemia patients in the Charlotte area and beyond. We at Levine Cancer Institute are excited to partner with Swim Across America for the sixth consecutive year in an effort to improve the lives of cancer patients.
In 2021, we received a record-breaking grant of $170,000 from our Charlotte Swim Across America event. We are using these funds to support three exciting new projects
I’d like to take a moment to highlight a subset of what we have accomplished (thanks in large part to your support) over the past few years:
1. Comparison of commonly used treatments for acute myeloid leukemia.
example: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0145212622001308?via%3Dihub
2. Improving outcomes in hematologic malignancies by developing ways to help patients with financial distress. example: https://ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/OP.22.00056?url_ver=Z39.88-2003&rfr_id=ori%3Arid%3Acrossref.org&rfr_dat=cr_pub++0pubmed&
3. Development of ways to incorporate clinical pharmacists in the care of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasm, especially as pertains to risk-stratification and symptom assessment. example: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10428194.2022.2032037?journalCode=ilal20
4. Investigational therapeutics in hematologic malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia.
example: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10428194.2022.2057484?journalCode=ilal20
5. Efforts to improve the care of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms.
example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9052904/
6. Collaboration with other centers to optimize stem cell transplantation for hematologic malignancies
example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7903230/
My colleagues and I (and our patients) appreciate the support we have received in the past, and we also appreciate any support you can lend to this year’s Swim Across America event. The proceeds will go to our leukemia group’s work.
Thanks,
Mike
