While life may be uncertain right now, one thing that is certain is that cancer isn’t taking a break so neither will I in doing my part to fight it. I am participating in the SAA-Charlotte Coast to Coast Challenge to help raise funds that will support cancer research and clinical trials at Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital!
My dad just hit his 3-year cancer free mark this year and it was filled with many emotions. It was obviously a celebration but it was also extremely humbling to know what all he and we went through to get to here. I will never stop celebrating these milsetones with my dad and am forever grateful for his health. Those close to me know that my dad and I have a very special relationship and he truly is my Hero. Watching how strong he was during his battle with cancer, his trust in his doctors, his faith, his love and support of us and his ability to keep his humor the whole time is something I will never forget. By the end of this challenge, I will push myself to run a 5k (3.1 miles) in celebration of my dad's 3-year cancer free milestone! This is also a challenge (which I have never done) in honor of all of the cancer fighters and survivors and in memory of those lost to cancer in my life.
This year I also dedicate my efforts in honor of a close family friend and one of the nicest people I am fortunate enough to know while he battles cancer. Every mile I run or walk I take is just a reminder that he is fighting this battle so I must do my part and what I can in this battle as well.
