Now I swim in memory of both my Dad and Mother. My Mom, a long time supporter of my swims for SAA, recently passed on in her 100th year.
This is my 19th consecutive year participating in the Chicago SAA. I have come to realize SAA is about finding cures for cancer and WE can make a difference. Participating in the SAA fund raising effort is my way of giving back to the scientists, doctors and patients who went before me and had the cures for my cancers when I needed them. Not only am I alive, but my quality of life as a six time survivor is uncompromised. I owe them much.
But SAA is also about people. As we move through the years, more and more friends and family have been afflicted with cancer and not all of them are with us today. Its for these brave souls I also swim in their honor and memory.
Please support this great cause by sponsoring my swim. Your donation goes to the Rush University Cancer Center for cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. SAA partners with Rush by providing seed money for pilot projects with highly promising but unproven science. These projects are very difficult to fund through traditional sources. SAA contributions will jump start many promising cancer research projects in hopes that a few will prove to be major life changing successes in the future. Three SAA projects have advanced and been awarded over $2.5 million from the National Institutes of Health.
Since partnering with Rush in 2012, SAA has raised/contributed over $1,400,000 for support in 15 distinct research projects focused on a variety of treatment disciplines that impact patients with very specific types of breast, lung, blood, bone, gastrointestinal and renal cancers.
The money you give today, may be your cure tomorrow.
Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
