On August 10, I will be swimming in my 24th Swim Across America, Chicago event. I will be participating on Team Russ- a tribute to Russ Haffner who lost his battle with cancer in 2011 and for all my friends and family who have been touched by this horrible disease.
Russ and I swam in 15 Swim Across America events together. Russ was an extraordinary human being- a true creative and gifted athlete. He was one of the best open water swimmers in the area. A trained chef and graduate from the Cordon Bleu, Russ would stay up half the night to cook for our post race event and then swim 4-6 miles. And, do it all effortlessly. We will be thinking of Russ and all of our family and friends as we make waves to fight cancer. I hope you can help support our efforts.
All proceeds from the event will benefit young researchers at the Rush University Cancer Center.
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming in the Chicago Open Water Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer as I can. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
