This is year 21 swimming in honor and memory of daughter Anne, who died Dec. 30th, 1998 by reason of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. During her two year battle, at all times, no matter how sick, she urged us on to fight the disease with and for her and others. So, this is what Anne wanted her dad and family and friends to do as long as they could. And, we've done it and are still going and growing strong! And old "dad", grandpa to 4, is proud to be the Cap'n of Team Anne, Mike and Friends. It has been an immensely gratifying experience.
We have been so lucky to get participation from new team members from outside the family, each of whom have separately been touched by cancer of one form or another. Mike Karpinski was a great guy and we've added his memory and honor to the team. His daughter Stacy and son Mike and their friends have the spirit that their dad had and that's very similar to the swimming spirit Anne had, so this event has really been good and fun for all of us.
On August 10th this summer I'll be participating in Swim Across America, Chicago again. I will swim a mile. I am committed to raise money for the cause. I have spent time training, and fund raising.
Your generous 100% tax deductible donations will help fund cancer research, diagnosis, prevention and treatment at Rush University Cancer Research Center, a major medical center research facility located just a couple of miles from our course on the beach in Lake Michigan, and serving countless cancer victims in the Chicago area.
Please help to support our efforts and this critically important cause by making a generous contribution.
You can also help me by passing this message along to others who may be interested in being a part of Swim Across America, Chicago.
