Friends and Family: As you know, I swim. Once a year I swim for more.
On Saturday, August 10, I will be swimming my usual 5K swim in Lake Michigan with Swim Across America. But the distance is secondary. What’s important is the cause.
As in recent past years, Rush University Cancer Center in Chicago, and in particular breakthrough, innovative early-stage clinical trials, is the beneficiary of all funds raised. With initial research grants, researchers can gather data necessary to win larger grants. The multiplier effect for these initial grants can be as high as 20x. Targeted research has focused on investigating the role of Vitamin D in the treatment and prevention of cancer.
We have all been touched by cancer. Karen’s Mom, Nancy, was diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer this year. We are fortunate that her diagnosis was made at an early stage. Karen’s Dad, Michael, succumbed to gastric cancer in 2011. Survivors include a surprising number of family and friends.
