Each year I swim for those, past and present, affected by cancer. Last year, I swam to HONOR my dear friend, Dave. He was battling colon cancer with all his might, enduring tough treatments with an intense desire to be able to spend additional days with his family. A few weeks after SAA, he passed away and now, this year, I will continue to swim...in MEMORY of my dear friend, Dave. He was a talented photographer who was kind, funny and helpful. It just feels SO damn WRONG that he died! I could not stop Dave's cancer from metastasizing, but I CAN swim to help raise funds to support cancer research at RUSH and every stroke that propels me forward will be filled with hope that this necessary research will help treat the invasion of cancer into people's lives..like that of John T. and countless other awesome human beings....offering a chance to live a cancer-free life.
It's a humbling experience to be part of Swim Across America and I'm up for the challenge.
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming in the Chicago Open Water Swim and raising money to fight cancer. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure.
Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
