Swimming to Beat Cancer this summer -2023
July 23, 2023
Dear friends,
In just a few weeks, I will again hit the water in the name of cancer research and treatment with the admirable, aquatic, amicable Swim Across America superstars. Please join me in this noble cause to support cancer prevention and hasten the day we can defeat this awful disease.
Yes, my favorite fund raiser and summer event, Swim Across America (SAA) will return to Ohio Street Beach on August 12th. Over 200 cancer survivors, family, friends and supporters will swim in Lake Michigan to fight cancer. You can help again or for the first time. All gifts are needed and welcome, no matter how large or small. Your contribution will go to Rush University to benefit cancer research right here in Chicago.
Many of you know I am a prostate cancer survivor, like my brother - and now my new brother-in-law - we beat cancer. Sadly, my best friend Charlie and a number of my friends' wives were not as fortunate. Cancer touches 1 out of 2 men and 1 of 3 women. It doesn’t discriminate.
I joined the SAA community a few years ago because of their goal to find a cure for cancer. Little did I know how personal it would become. You may know SAA is a national program with open water events from Charleston to Seattle and Nashville to Nantucket -plus thirty places in between. It is a great cause that has a greater appeal. This is why I am writing to you.
Before summer ends, and school reopens for another year, I will swim in Lake Michigan again, in the name of cancer research. Please consider joining me again in this cause or making a first donation, if this program is new to you and your family. Your support will be greatly appreciated and further our efforts to find a cure for cancer.

Thank you again for your concern and interest. This is a meaningful effort you can be proud to play a part. You will be supporting cancer research, prevention and treatment.
Sincerely,
Vance du Rivage
