In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the Swim Across America/Denver community as a member of the Steering Committee and co-Chair of our Junior Advisory Board so that, together, we can change those expectations, starting with our children.  The research being conducted at the Children's Hospital Colorado Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders is amazing and life-changing. In just 6 short years, our SAA/Denver efforts have funded 4 research projects and 2 clinical trials, one of which is in its 2nd phase.

This year, in addition to volunteering [and swimming as an angel swimmer] in memory of Wayne Matejik and Rob Maurer, dear friends who left us far too early due to leukemia, I am also doing so to support our Patient Ambassadors, other close friends who are experiencing their own personal battles, and my granddaughter, Leja, in the hopes that what we are doing positively affects hers and her friends' futures.
