Welcome to My 2024 SAA Fundraising Page
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, many will be diagnosed early when they are children and just learning about their place in the world, and all the opportunities that exist in their future. I joined the Swim Across America community so that, together, we can change that. I first met my young friend Markus (now 18) during our first year in 2018, and he was a testament to how to turn a negative into a positive, thanks to the advances in cancer research and the therapies developed due to funds donated by individuals and businesses. I have a friend whose son Garrett (17) is fighting his own battle right now with a positive attitude, and hopefully will be able to achieve his dreams, including receiving the rank of Eagle Scout this year! Garrett has signed up with his father for 2024 to attempt to swim 2 miles, basically using only one arm! And young women like Halley, who was recently treated by Dr. Amanda Winters and the research she has done with AML, can now enjoy time with their families and think positively about what their adult futures hold. Children's Hospital Colorado's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders has also treated young men like Asher (21), who was diagnosed 2 years ago w/ cancer, and his parents are members of the Colorado swimming community. I work hard all year long for young people like this, as well as for older friends and family that have or are currently fighting cancer, like my Aunt Kay, Uncle Dave, Anna P. and run club member Vanessa B.
If you are able, please support me by making a gift. I'd appreciate your help in surpassing my fundraising amount raised last year, while achieving my goal this year of $12,000. For those that are local and would like a sweet "thank you" in return, I will give you a jar of my own local V's Bees honey from my backyard for a donation over $35! Just let me know if you are interested by contacting me at evitsaadenver@gmail.com. Cash, checks (made to SAA-Denver), Venmo, or online donations.
The researchers we are funding are in our local community and are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without Swim Across America early-stage funding, they are not able to conduct trials that can lead to breakthroughs that can save lives. Thank you for helping make an impact in the fight to find a cure!
