InnerNews - The Farmer Crew

BIG NEWS! Our 2022 team was a friend and family reunion! 2023 will be even better!

If you noticed, we were no longer a team of one swimmer in 2022! Joining us was our 2019 Team Towers captain Dr. Mike Firth from our earlier swim and my medical and moral support in 2021! In addition, during the 2022 swim, Craig (2019 & 2022), and his daughters- Jen & Casey, and cousin MK (2019 & 2022 swimmer) also swam! We hope our team returns and others will be joining our 2023 team shortly... but we are also trying to work with team members that are supporting us from across the country that are unable to join us in Denver open water swim. The swim is Sunday, August 20, 2023, and we need your help to reach our goal.

Trivia - Three of our 2019 (out of 7) team members are survivors of Scheuermann's Disease, all without surgery (ages 40+, 60+, & 70+) and helped greatly by swimming and exercise while fighting our disease. I was diagnosed at Children's Hospital with the disease when I was 14 years-old!

More Trivia - Three of our 2022 swimmers (with two doing 2 miles) are over 70 and two others, one over 60 and the other 70+, are doing the 1/2 mile, also known as the giggle crew! Four of our planned swimmers are over 60 and will have participated at least twice,  this was my third, in the Denver open water swim! We also had at least a few younger swimmers!

Won't you help... donate, join the team, or do your own event in your area we just would like you to participate and help us fight an insidious disease that does not care about age, race, or gender!

Remember you may also donate in the honor of a family member, friend, or another loved one! One swimmer has committed to putting names of those to be honored on his body as he does his swim!

I am swimming in honor of my friend and assistant fire chief Troy (WFD), my brother Ken (a firefighter and ski patroller from Steamboat Springs), my dad, my grandfather, my aunt Mary and so many more. Help us fight this disease and give hope to the most vulnerable group... children!

Thank you for your support and please donate!

James Farmer (Team Captain, 2021, 2022, and 2023 and a swimmer in 2019)

Some chilling facts....

In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. We joined the Swim Across America community so that, together, we can change that.

If you are able, please support us by making a gift. The researchers we are funding are in our community and are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without Swim Across America early-stage funding, they are not able to conduct trials that can lead to breakthroughs that can save lives. Thank you for helping make an impact in the fight to find a cure!
