Welcome to My Personal Page
This will be my third year to be involved with Swim Across America. We will be having our event on April 20th in Islamorada at Founders Park. Swim Across America (SAA) has been in existence for 35 years and has granted over $100M to fund cancer research and clinical trials at world renowned research institutes such as: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins, Moffitt Cancer Center, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, MD Anderson, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute just to name a few. Our Islamorada event will donate raised funds to Miami Cancer Institute (MCI) part of Baptist Health. Our cancer treatment center at Mariners Hospital is part of MCI. Last year our event provided over $100,000 for phase one cancer research at MCI.
My personal reason for being part of this upcoming event is remembrance and gratitude. My mother Jeanne Bell lost her battle to bladder cancer in 1997. My sister-in-law, Brenda Walker lost her battle in 2020 to recurrence of cancer she had in 2008. My gratitude is for the survival of my husband, Glenn who was diagnosed in 2008 with very aggressive prostate cancer. He is a 17 year survivor. Survival of cancer is directly influenced by research and development of better treatments which is what SAA funds.
Please be a part of this very exciting event. You can swim yourself and raise money for your own team, you can volunteer to help put this event on or you can donate to team Latham.
If you can not attend, please donate to help find a cure.
Thank you
