Unfortunately, we lost two more close friends to cancer over the last year and I am doing something about it. I am swimming three miles in their memory on Saturday, June 22rd in the Swim Across America - Fairfield County Open Water Swim in Long Island Sound. This swim is for the benefit of the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy which funds some fabulous cancer researchers and scientists around the country who are making great progress in their research. Two other friends of ours have recently gone though stem cell transplants after fighting cancer for several years and are now on the road to recovery. This is a result of the research that is being done from the funds that we are raising in our swim.
I have teamed up with Team Julian once again to continue the legacy of Julian Fraser, a wonderful young man and a close family friend who lost his battle with osteosarcoma in 2017 at age 20. Julian's legacy is being preserved through this team of dedicated friends, swimmers and fundraisers, and as long as I am able, I will swim and raise money in Julian's memory and for our friends who are fighting the battle, or who have lost the battle with cancer.
Our friend Tom Hagopian from Darien, CT, proud father of Louis and Paul, husband of Anne, former teammate on our Carlson & Carlson softball team, and an early technology guru at ESPN and AT&T, lost a long, hard battle with pancreatic cancer last August. Tom was only 59 years old.
Our friend Kaca Enquist from Old Greenwich, CT, wife of John, mother to Annabel and John, Jr., daughter of Don and Jara, sister of Tina and Misa, and a long time Goldman Sachs executive lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer on January 12th. Kaca was only 58 years old.
We miss our friends, but we will continue to remember and honor them as we make waves to fight cancer.
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the Swim Across America community so that, together, we can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming three miles in the Fairfield County Open Water Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer as I can. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and may it help lead to a cancer-free world!
