For the past five years, I have participated as a swimmer in the Fairfield County Swim Across America. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, I have raised well over $100,000 for the innovative research sponsored by the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy. The ACGT has played a special role in taking immunotherapy and, more specifically, CAR-T therapy from an interesting idea to approved drugs that are saving people’s lives today. There is much work left to be done and ACGT is not resting on its laurels. I remain optimistic that organizations like the ACGT and the brilliant scientists that they support will cure cancer, if not in my lifetime, at least in the lifetimes of our children.
I swim to honor the memories of the wonderful people that cancer has taken from us- Brad Nitkin, Wendy Landes, Katha Diddel, Peter Hinrichs, Jim Phelan, Holly Pressman, Vietor Evans, Susan Boyle, Robin Milstein, Tom Little, and Lori Konolige. It is just horrible that I have had to add names to this list every year. And I swim to honor the far too long list of friends who have been treated for cancer in recent years- Joe, Meline, Robin, Sig, Martha, Stacey, Fran, Scott, Todd, Lynda, Doug, Ann, Katie, Barbara, Emily, and Ronni.
I will swim 1 ½ miles in the Long Island Sound on June 22. I ask that you join me in being part of this great cause by making a generous donation. It’s also a heart warming event to witness and I invite you to join us at the event that early morning.
For the past two years, my son Will and I have partnered in this. Will is unable to participate this year as he is in a cast from an injury.
