Covid 19. Stopped the world in it's tracks.
Like Cancer, it marches forward untiI we develop the vaccine or find a cure.
Our ELEVEN year Celebration Swim for Team Kicking Cancer for Karen, Chris & Friends changes as we can not gather for our open water swim but have been asked to create a personal challenge this year.
Jim and Kristine will be doing a buoy to buoy swim tomorrow morning at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport where I will be cheering them on from the shoreline and walking. Caroline is doing a mini triathelon in Boston. Clearly not the same for any one of us but we want to keep the fundraising effort alive to support the research that Swim Accross America has backed and donated to.
The Power of 11 Years where YOU made a difference in countless peoples lives - yesterday, today and tomorrow. By being part of our team the first year, five years ago and today - you support the future of cancer research.
To date, your helped our team raise close to $250,000.
Swimmers, Kayakers, Land Volunteers, Fundraisers and Shoreline Cheerleaders. Not this year, but hopefully in 2011 again!!
Can you support or virtual team in this unique and unprecedendted 11th Anniversary year? We hope so.
Thank you for all you have done - from myself, Jim, Kristine & Caroline. I am not sure we knew the first year how Swim Across America would become such an important part of our lives. This started with my cancer diagnosis and then Jim's dear brother Chris. Too many people getting cancer. We have to fund the research to lower the numbers.
This year we swim in memory of our friend Patricia Prongay - who at 61 just this past week lost her courageous battle with cancer leaving her husband and 14 year old twins. We are so very grateful and celebrate our friends Ann, AnnBeth, Louise, Jenn, Joyce and Tom who show amazing strength and admirable courage! And JP Kealy - you continue to inspire us! And celebrate my brother-in-law Scott who has hurdled and beat cancer. I celebrate TEN years now post cancer.
We have lost too many to cancer - dear Charlotte; who faced cancer with the biggest smile and optimism, Mike Prongay, my brother in law Chris, my mom Bernice, co-worker and friend Toni and Coach Joan. And we swim in memory of Aunt Kathy, Ellin's father Richard, Sue's father Ray, the owner of Jim's company Newman and Dolores' daughter. Karen & Sue's father Bud, Pete's father Eric, Laurie's mother Edie and Coach Kelly.
We have all been touched by cancer in our lives. It is a horrible disease that with your help we can fund research to find better treatment options, prevention and a cure.
Thank you for your support. Donate what you can at the link here.
If you are able, please support me and our team by making a gift. The researchers we are funding are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without Swim Across America early stage funding, they are not able to conduct trials that can lead to breakthroughs that can save lives.
Thank you for helping make an impact in the fight to find a cure! ~ Karen
