We launched Team Meline last year in honor of our dear friend Meline Dickson, to support the search for more treatments like the immunotherapy that brought her stage 4 metastatic melanoma to its knees when nothing else was working—not radiation therapy, not two craniotomies to remove tumors. That was four years ago. Not so very long ago, people did not survive Meline’s diagnosis for much more than six months, presenting as it did in her brain, lungs and liver.
Meline is part of the weave of our lives, in ways big and small, a sustaining friendship, one of the relationships that comprise the foundation on which our lives sit: the place where courage comes from, a source of the hope, humor, grace and best inclinations that arrive at the most unlikely moments—when we most need them.
This is why we Swim …for our Meline, for the Melines in everyone’s life and we hope you will join us in supporting our efforts this year.
P.S. To learn more about Meline's incredible story and the treatment that is saving her, check out the “Medical Marvels” clip produced earlier this year by ABC News. We invite you to either swim with us (most of us are athletes of the land-based variety so don’t be undone by the swimming), or donate to our team. Any amount is tremendously appreciated.
You can make a credit card donation by clicking on one of the members of our team, or send a check to Swim Across America, c/o Jacque Lang, 14 Little Ridge Road, Ridgefield, CT 06877. Check should be made out to Swim Across America but please include a note mentioning our team or the swimmer you are supporting!
