G.I. cancer + G.I. Jane = G.I. Nancy

I was diagnosed in the last month with two completely unrelated G.I. (gastrointestinal) cancers. That’s some sh*tty news.

But I got some good news too.  So I’m choosing to feel lucky in an unlucky situation.  My doctors are using the word “cure” when discussing my treatments.  

Cure is a powerful, motivating word.  It’s why I joined Swim Across America years ago and why I continue to lead Swim Across America - Fairfield County (SAA-FC).

Since 2007, SAA-FC has granted over $5.5 million to our beneficiary,  Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), supporting their mission to help develop cell and gene therapies that strengthen the immune system to fight cancer without impacting healthy tissue.  ACGT is helping to turn this vision for cancer treatment into a reality by funding brilliant scientists devoted to researching how to develop effective cell and gene therapies that are leading to improved treatments and eventually to a cure for many deadly, difficult-to-treat cancers.

On Saturday, June 29, hundreds of swimmers, volunteers, and supporters will come together in the early morning to share their dedication to fighting cancer.  

I hope that you will join my fight.  Please donate.  Please join team G.I. Nancy as a swimmer or volunteer.  Please join me on June 29th for one of the most inspirational events you will ever experience.  

And when you think of me, picture G.I. Jane, the head-shaven badass who is stronger than most give her credit for, who will never give up.  Ever.  I don’t know if I’m going to lose my hair, but I do know I’m going to have to be strong.  And I am so very lucky to have an army of supporters.  I am not facing this alone.  

Together, we’re going to kick cancer’s a**!
