Dear Friends,
The fight to end cancer continues and we are in it until cancer is defeated!
On October 14th, I will participate in Swim Across America’s Houston open water swim event to benefit MD Anderson’s Neuro Oncology research program. They are researching novel approaches using immunotherapy to fight brain cancer. One of these may unlock innovations that could save many lives. I’ve been supporting Swim Across America since 2009. I am passionate about their mission to end cancer and love their approach to it.
A few statistics from the American Cancer Society.
· Cancer is the second-leading cause of death among children ages 1-14 years, after accidents.
· Overall, incidence rates have increased since 1975 by 0.6% per year on average among children and by 0.7% per year among adolescents.
· The death rate for cancer has declined by more than half in both children and adolescents, from 4.9 (per 100,000) in 1975 to 2.0 in 2018 and from 5.9 to 2.9, respectively, largely due to improvements in treatment and high participation, especially among children, in clinical trials.
· Brain cancer has just a 25% survival rate.
Each year we get more advances and more victories over this foe.
I hope you will consider joining us by swimming, donating or coming out to Lake Longhorn to enjoy the event with us. You’ll get to hear more about what the research may bring in new successes against cancer. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer free world!
